| Here we present very special material devoted to German selection
procedure. In this material we used information from site Eurosong.org- special site launched in protest "to the disgraceful way the eurovision contest is being held in Germany" and materials that were presented to us by Mark David Hatwood, british songwriter who lives and works in Berlin. His quotes are put in quotation marks. Let give him chance to present his opinion. First of all he tried to enter his song into ESC and "discovered that in Germany a song could only be entered by a record company." He found it a little-bit unfair but followed the rules and spend 3 months to find a record company(doing this with help of his publisher BMG) and to collect all documents required. When only a week was left before the contest he finally "struck a deal with Turbo Beat Records Frank Maass. The next day Frank and I(Mark) met to finalise all the details and saw that the first item on the contract was a little unclear. I took it that from all the entries sent in only 2 from the BMG group, 3 from Universal...etc. would be chosen to represent their group in the final. Frank checked this out with NDR as he too was unsure of the wording. To my amazement it turned out that only 2 songs from the whole of the BMG group, 3 from Universal...etc. are allowed to enter, and they go straight into the final. ie there is no pre selection by jury and therefore no chance of a freak act (such as Abba) ever making it into the competition, cause record companies are much more likely to only enter a song from an artist already on their books." "Is this true way of competition?", Mark wondered. 3 month of hard work and then this devastating rule. Then "I realise that this is a financial and practical decision as opposed to a creative one and for this reason feel it my duty as a songwriter to make a move against these new rules" So he wrote a message to NDR explaining his opinion. "The reply I had from Herr Jurgen Meier-Beer at NDR was very angry at first. He
accused me of knowing anything about the music industry in this country and said that the
competition was almost dead here a few years ago...which was true at least as far as the

"Честен ли такой отбор",- подумал Марк. 3 месяца тяжелой работы, и потом это разрушительное правило. Затем "я поня, что это финансовое решение противостоит созиданию, и мой долг как автора- выступить против этих правил" Тогда он написал письмо в NDR, где объяснил свое мнение. "Ответ, который я получил от г-на Юргена Мейр-Бира, был очень злым. Он обвинил меня в том, что я не разбираюсь в музыкальной индустрии, и сказал, что соревнование почти погибло пару лет назад... что вообще-то было правдой, если смотреть по ТВ шоу, и это был единственный путь вновь вдохнуть в него жизнь." Он просто отверг все конструктивные идеи, предложенные Марком, который, кстати, никак не новичок в этой области, и заявил, что студии будут искать и других исполнителей. Но кто в это поверит? Имея такие правила, возможно ли любому новому исполнителю попасть на конкурс? Ответ -НЕТ!
